More about Sensei Naude Gouws. He started the practice of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate in 1977 and has been training with Sensei Bakkies Laubscher since 1978. Today he is a full time 5th Dan (Godan) karate instructor. With dojo's in Somerset-West, Franschhoek, Paarl and Wellington you will be close to a training facility or dojo as it is called. Currently the largest number of karateka train weekly in Paarl.

We are extremely privileged to train with Sensei Naude for number of reasons. He brings a lot of knowledge to the dojo floor, from years of experience but also from training and gaining insight from other senior IOGKF instructors worldwide.

He has visited Tokyo in Japan in 2000, and Naha in Okinawa on several occasions in 2004, 2008 for the World Budosai events and again in 2019 for the Okinawa Dento Karate-do Gishiki. These events are attended by more than 1000 karateka from more than 50 different countries around the world, and instruction comes from the highest-ranking masters worldwide.

All of these events feature the legendary Sensei Morio Higaonna, the creator of the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation, who has been recognised by the Okinawan government as an tangible Cultural Treasure of Okinawa, a recognition of his many years of dedication and preservation of Goju-Ryu Karate, which itself is an important part of the Okinawan culture and history.

This privilege of going to the birthplace of Karate is not only for instructors, but anyone practicing the art of Goju-Ryu and who wants to visit Okinawa. You learn a lot about the history of Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate, but also take in a huge amount of the culture in and around Okinawa where Goju-Ryu karate was born.

Sensei Naude is proud to offer several different types of classes throughout his dojo(s) making Karate accessible for just about everyone! On a weekly basis he hosts Karate classes for pre-schoolers (4-5 y.o. & 5-6 y.o.), primary school students (Grade 1-3 & Grade 4-7), high school student's (Grade 8-12), adults and families!

The IOGKF of South Africa, under the leadership of Sensei Bakkies Laubscher (the first ever Westerner who has attained 9th Dan black belt level in Traditional Okinawan Karate, have carefully designed a structured curriculum for your child that offers fun, fitness and quality martial arts education along with character building.
